- Traditionally taken as a summer coolant
- Swells overnight into a soft, jelly-like treat
- Stirred into sherbets, milk and thandai
- Hand-sorted, nothing added
Gond Katira looks like rough little crystals of amber glass — and then you soak it, and by morning it has bloomed into soft, cool jelly. This natural gum, tapped patiently from the tragacanth shrub, has been north India's traditional summer coolant for generations: dissolved into sherbets, stirred into chilled milk, and served by grandmothers on days when the loo winds blew.
It has no taste of its own, which is its charm — it takes on whatever you soak it in, adding a pleasant, cooling texture to any summer drink.
Our Gond Katira is hand-sorted and packed in small lots — clean, pure crystals, nothing bleached, nothing added. Always Limited, like everything under our lotus.
100% pure Gond Katira (tragacanth gum) crystals. No additives, no preservatives.
Soak a teaspoon of crystals in a cup of water overnight — they will swell into soft jelly. Rinse and stir into chilled milk, lemon sherbet, rose drinks or thandai. Traditionally enjoyed in the summer months. Always soak before use; do not eat the dry crystals.
